The father was dripped in sweat as he helped her young wife coped with labor pains. They were now on the verge of panic as the inevitable delivery of the baby was becoming evident. Not in the hospital. Not in a clinic. Not in a maternity. Not even in the comforts of their home. But in a shabby, old barge filled with people cruising in the middle of the sea.
They hid unobtrusively inside the jeep on board the barge to stay away from the prying eyes of people as the baby was delivered. The jeep offered a temporary refuge to the mother who was in now painful labor. Minutes later, a shrill cry broke the deafening silence. And the baby girl first came to see the rays of sunlight in a jeep on board the barge. Jeba- a name derived from Jeep and Barge- became the perfect nickname. She was later christened as Gwendolyn. The eldest of Diony and Lina's brood of six.
That was my birth story in a nutshell. As told a million times by my father. Unique indeed. Truly, in keeping with my character. This website is a testament of that uniqueness stamped to me since birth. The way all of us are unique in our ways, character and views.
